Victory Nickel Contest version 2.0

Version 2.0a upgrade underway

Welcome to the home page for Nadreck's Victory Nickel Competition running from July 1st 2005 to June 30th 2006.

I am motivated to run this contest for two reasons: to motivate people to identify some of their best investing ideas for the medium or long term; and to run a contest that was not a promotion of trading activity but of investing activity.

An overview of the contest

Simply put this contest simulates investing a stream of $10,000 per month with a maximum of one pick per month and a minimum of one every two months. The contest runs from July 1st 2005 to the end of trading on June 30th 2006. Picks must be submitted on the Stockhouse $grow board along with a description of why the pick was made. Scoring will be updated most days that the market trades and will be posted in summary on Stockhouse and kept in detail here. At the end of the contest the player with the highest total value of equity and cash will be the winner.

The contest is named for the single prize awarded to the winner of the contest, a World War II Canadian Victory Nickel.  Good luck to all!

The Victory Nickel Score sheets are a set of web pages that let you see the values of all competitors positions as well as the details on an individual competitors picks and the posts that players have made about individual securities on the Stockhouse $grow board.

Detailed rules

Can be found at the link: VNC 2.0 Rules.

Note: that like other pages on my web site this page and the rules page have feedback forms. Feedback on this page should be about the contest in general, this web page, and any social discourse that is relevant. On the rules page use the feedback form to ask your questions about interpretations of the rules so that as time goes by people can use the rules page feedback list as a type of FAQ.

Finally, a bit of history

It would be remiss of me to tell you all about the current contest without at least mentioning the winner of the last contest and providing a link to the final score sheet from that one. In a field of 21 contestants starting and 16 finishing godot10 won by a small margin over pirate01 in second place, honorable mention would go to juan49 who had an excellent return in 3rd place.

Coming soon will a podcast interview with godot10
